The excitement is mounting in the run-up to Euro 2020, but who will provide the memorable moments of the tournament.
Sportsmails expert Danny Murphy gives his predictions on who will be the winners, who will win the golden boot and how England will progress.
In addition, he outlines the players and matches to watch out for.
The French attack on Mbappé, Benzema and Griezmann makes them favorite in the tournament
WHO WIN THE GROUPS?
I don’t see anyone upset the big guns – Italy, Belgium, Holland, England, Spain, France. The Group of Death seems closest, but France is slightly stronger than Germany and Portugal.
WHO WIN THE TOURNAMENT?
France showed at the last World Cup that it can cross the line. Hard to find a weakness, strong defensive and a front three of Mbappe, Benzema and Griezmann.
WHO ARE MY DARK HORSES?
Denmark has been passable and unbeaten in qualifying for a while now. Christian Eriksen is back in shape and Andreas Christensen has settled in at Chelsea.
Denmark, which could call on Christian Eriksen, could be a surprise at Euro 2020
MY THREE PLAYERS TO SHINE
LEROY SANE (Germany)
I really liked Sane at Manchester City. He has overcome his injury problems at Bayern Munich and has finished the season strongly. Lightning fast and gives flair to the team.
Leroy Sané finished the season well at Bayern Munich and will impress for Germany
KARIM BENZEMA (France)
He has incredible know-how. Every Real Madrid manager has chosen him, that’s saying something. Makes France even stronger than three years ago.
Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has incredible know-how – his return makes France stronger
GERARD MORENO (Spain)
The Villarreal striker has been a revelation at 29. He comes in great positions, which will benefit Spain immensely.
A revelation for Villarreal, striker Gerard Moreno is determined to help Spain triumph
THREE GROUP GAMES NOT TO MISS
Spain v Sweden (8:00 PM, June 14)
This is my first game for the BBC. Nobody has the ball better than Spain, but Sweden has been strong and improved since 2018, when they reached the quarter-finals of the World Cup.
France v Germany (8:00 PM, June 15)
A huge rivalry. I beat their World Cup quarter-final in 2014 and was captivated by the intensity. It felt like a meeting of two powerhouses.
England v Scotland (8pm, June 18)
This was the first international I saw at Wembley, when as an 11 year old I traveled down from Chester on a bus to watch Peter Beardsley score the winner.
WHO WIN THE GOLD BOOTS?
To match Alan Shearer and win a European Championship Golden Boot to add to his World Cup would confirm Harry Kane’s status as one of England’s great strikers.
Harry Kane from England wants to add another Golden Shoe to his collection this summer
WHO WILL BE THE PLAYER OF THE TOURNAMENT?
It’s almost too obvious because N’Golo Kante is so ridiculously good, but every other team in the tournament wishes they had him on their team.
After excelling in the Champions League final, N’Golo Kante could now shine at Euro 2020
WHO DO I FEAR?
Wales is in a very difficult group with Italy, Switzerland and Turkey and it will be difficult to qualify. The loss of their manager Ryan Giggs will not have helped and big players like Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey will not enter the tournament at the same level as at Euro 2016.
Wales may especially struggle with concerns over Aaron Ramsey’s sharpness
WHERE DOES ENGLAND END?
Semi-finals. With the talent Gareth Southgate can choose from, you can see England go deep. But to reach the final every player would have to be fantastic.
Gareth Southgate’s England can reach the semi-finals, but want to go even further
WHAT DO I HOPE FOR
Euro 2020 should be a joy, with fans creating a carnival feeling. At the end of a game, we want to talk about a brilliant bit of magic or a stunning goal, not a decision by the referee that turned the game upside down. We want it to be like the last World Cup.
