A familiar face was on hand to meet the striker, in the form of Burnley's former teammate Charlie Austin.

The duo will seek to leverage the insight they established at Turf Moor to lead the front line successfully for the Saints this season, and help the club build on the disappointing 17th place finish of the previous season.

Southampton took his official social media channels to load a short clip of the first day of Ings, in which he could see the whole smile in the locker room while meeting with Austin.

The squad then headed to the training camp, with Mark Hughes watching his players as the rain lashed.

The action of the Premier League will return to Southampton on Sunday, when they welcome the former Burnley from Ings to St Mary & # 39; s.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Friday, Hughes admitted that there is a possibility that Ings could be launched directly into action.
