Police Officer Angela Todd said: “A conditional offer of a fixed fine was sent on April 9. [Ings] has not met the requirements of these removal options.”

The former Liverpool player was caught driving at an average speed of 60mph in an 80mph zone at 3:29am on 3 February this year near Southampton, Hants – with the speed limit set due to road works.

Ings, who lives in Winchester, Hants, has yet to plead.

He is said to have driven east between junctions four and five, where Highways England is carrying out roadworks to create a smart highway.

Average speed cameras of yellow hawks were installed with a speed limit of 80 km/h and last year 10,204 drivers were caught speeding between junctions four and five of the M27, police figures show.

Ings, who has played for England three times since leaving the under-21 roster, reportedly cost £18million when he moved to Southampton and was linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur this summer.
