Danil Medvedev became Roland-Garros’ first big casualty when the world number 2 lost in five sets to Brazilian qualifier Thiago Seyboth Wild.
The Brazilian moved ahead of a tight first set after a tiebreaker and then dropped some set points in the second.
The Russian leaned back in his chair with a smile before taking third and seemingly ending any thoughts of a first-lap exit.

The world No. 2 lost in five sets to Brazilian qualifier Thiago Seyboth Wild in a thriller
But the world No. 172 fought back to win the final two sets with a series of aesthetic blows that had the Parisian crowd on the Philippe Chatrier court up in arms.
He came to the stadium where Brazil won their last Grand Slam via Gustavo ‘Guga’ Kuerten in 1997 and Seyboth Wild played in front of the spectators and pushed them between the points.
He broke second-seeded Medvedev’s serve three times in the final set and earned a famous win in four hours and 15 minutes.
