Marcos Ambrose and Greg Murphy insulting each other at Bathurst in 2005 may be the height of drama in Australian motorsport, but NASCAR has taken it to a new level, with parts of one car thrown at each other.
In NASCAR’s second-tier series, late in his career at Richmond Raceway in Virginia, Joey Gase ended up on the outside wall.
Its slide along the wall left the rear bumper guard hanging by a thread.
After getting out of his car, the 31-year-old finished ripping it off the rear bumper and then went to look for the car that pushed him into the wall.
Seeing Dawson Cram’s number four approaching with the rest of the field on the inside wall, Gase walked about 10 paces down the steeply banked track and threw the bumper guard at the Chevrolet.
“His timing and delivery were pretty impeccable here,” said one commentator.
“Boom, right on the windshield,” another added.
“I’m not saying it’s the right thing to do, but I’m saying I understand it.”
After the race, Gase’s team tweeted to Cram, “I hope you cherish your memory,” accompanied by a photo of the wrecked car.
