Daniel Ricciardo returned the serve to Jacques Villeneuve, telling the former F1 world champion to “eat s**t” after his best qualifying performance of the F1 season.
Former champion Jacques Villeneuve yesterday questioned why Ricciardo is still in F1 and claimed his image ultimately saved his career in a wild live television rant.
While being interviewed by Sky Sports in Montreal on Sunday morning, Ricciardo explained that he had just learned of the F1 great’s scathing comments.
‘I have just been informed (of Villeneuve’s comments). I don’t listen or read, but there are definitely some out there that…yeah, whatever,” Ricciardo said.

In another interview reported by speedcafe.com The Australian also let Villeneuve fly.
“I still don’t know what he said, but I heard he’s been talking shit,” Ricciardo said after qualifying.
But he always does it. I think he’s hit his head too many times; I don’t know if he plays ice hockey or something.
‘Anyway, I won’t give it the time of day, but all those people can suck it. I want to say more but it’s okay. We’ll leave it behind.

It was a dramatic qualifying session with the threat of occasional persistent rain. Everyone had to be alert, a point Russell highlighted when he clung to his spinning car in Turn 4 during Q2.
Lando Norris will start third, 0.021 seconds off the lead, one place ahead of his McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri.
Commentator Matt Gallagher described Ricciardo’s drive as “ridiculous” and suggested he should thank Villeneuve for the motivation he has given him.
“Daniel Ricciardo needs to pay Jacques Villeneuve a bonus for the motivation he has given him this weekend,” said Sky’s David Croft.
“This is by far the best qualifying day of the season for Daniel Ricciardo so far.”
The Australian driver was emotional after the session and could be heard celebrating over the team radio.
“Fuck yeah,” he said.
