A horrified onlooker captured the moment a large truck followed a car as it drove at high speed on a major highway.

Courtney, who was traveling in another car on Melbourne’s Monash Freeway this week, said she noticed the delivery truck was riding on the back of a “small” car.

Her husband filmed the “terrifying” scene from the passenger seat as the truck hurtled toward the car, apparently just inches behind him.

The couple’s daughter in the back seat asked what the truck was doing.

“You’re too close to that car,” Courtney told him.

A driver on Melbourne’s Monash Freeway filmed one of the “worst examples of tailgating” he has ever seen this week.

The truck was less than a meter from the back of the car in front as the two traveled around 98 kilometers for more than a kilometer.

The mother appeared in Jacqui Felgate’s 3AW Radio Show to talk about Thursday’s harrowing moment.

“There would have only been a meter between the truck and the car, so it was pretty intimidating,” Courtney said.

The chase lasted approximately one kilometer along the highway while both vehicles were traveling at 98 kilometers per hour.

Felgate noted that at one point in the footage the message “No trucks in the right lane” was clearly visible next to the truck.

Courtney said the truck tried to get out of the right lane but couldn’t because “it was stuck between another car.”

The tailgate ended when the truck pulled over to the car on its left and continued down the highway.

According to Courtney, close tailgating happens “a lot” in the area, but this incident was one of the “worst examples” she has ever seen.

“Monash is pretty hectic, but it was pretty intense,” Courtney said.
