Judge Mark Wilson said of the pair, “I’m looking at the accomplishment that brought me the most travel, then the pair I’d like to pass on to the grand final is … Kyly and Gustavo.”

Todd McKenney disagreed, saying, “If I were to buy a ticket for a night with someone performing, I would buy the ticket for Matty and Ruby.”

It was Helen Richey’s voice that saved Kyly, with the iconic dancer saying she felt the performance in her ‘heart and mind’.

She told the couple, ‘I’ve been dancing since I was five years old, and I let my heart rule my head, but in this case, my heart and head are in agreement.’

In the fifth season in 2006, Matty had recreated a samba song made famous by former contestant Chris Hemsworth.

It wasn’t enough to win over the jury, although Todd McKenney felt the former Bachelor should have been in the final instead of Kyly.
