Sam Newman revealed on Saturday that Network Seven had approached him to appear on this year’s season of Dancing with the Stars.

The former Footy Show panelist, 77, told L.A Herald Sun He turned down the offer due to a “debilitating ankle injury”.

He said he would have cared if it weren’t for the injury even John Travolta would have admired his dance moves.

“She approached me but because of my ankle injury I wasn’t able to extend the conversation much further,” he said.

And he went on to say: dance? I think John Travolta has all my old disco tapes, and I think he’ll have a bunch of my dance moves.

A new batch of celebrities will battle it out for the Mirrorball trophy when Dancing with the Stars returns to Australian television screens this year.

Channel 7 announced on Friday that it will revive the popular reality TV show for its 20th season, TVTonight reports.

Although the show wasn’t mentioned alongside other returning shows at Upfronts last year, the network has revealed that the casting process is currently underway.

Dancing with the Stars is expected to premiere in the second quarter of the year.

The public has yet to hear about the hosts, judges and actors who will be chosen for this year’s season, which BBC Studios Australia will produce.

But it has been confirmed that the program will not be in an All-Stars format this time after the network has done so for the past two seasons.
