Greg Rutherford has said his fiancee was wrong when she said he was ‘recovering well’ in her latest update, insisting he was ‘very sore’ and ‘very tired’ and undergoing further tests.

The 37-year-old Dancing On Ice star missed the final after sustaining a significant injury in the morning with exercises and needed stitches after being rushed to hospital.

His fiancee Susie Verrill had taken to her Instagram pages to tell her fans he was ‘doing much better and recovering well’.

Now Greg has taken to his own social media pages to correct her, and after sharing her post, which said he was making progress, captioned it: ‘No I don’t.’

Susie then corrected her statement and said: ‘Ok ignore, wanted everyone to know that he is indeed in a lot of pain.’

Greg also filmed himself in bed and told his fans he had an early night after seeing a specialist on Monday afternoon.

After thanking fans for their support, he said and explained: ‘Seen a specialist today, I’ve got some scans tomorrow and then I’ll know more about what’s going on and what’s happening.

‘I’m very sore and very tired so I’ll have an early night tonight. But again, I can’t believe the amount of lovely messages I’ve gotten, thank you so much. I will update everyone when I know what the next step is. This is grim.’

Greg also shared a video of himself and Vanessa James doing the bolero as he lamented missing the final and was a bit heartbroken.

He wrote: ‘Something that I really wish I could have accomplished… #Bolero I’m almost 36 hours since the injury and watching videos of what could have been. It’s damn hard to take at this point as I know we could have shown something exciting and new with our last performance.

“Obviously Bolero is not a given and I will also post our showcase at some point… I haven’t shown the ending as I am determined to actually perform it with Vanessa one day for all to see.

‘I’m really proud of what we achieved on the show. This recording was from Saturday morning and we were marking for the double twist… the full program was really beautiful. I’m a little heartbroken at the moment.’

The Olympian had to battle it out against Ryan Thomas, Adele Roberts and Miles Nazaire for the trophy on Sunday.

That day, Susie took to her Instagram to update fans on the star’s condition – assuring them he was fine and on the road to recovery.

Posting a snap of her stories about Greg laying in the hospital bed, she wrote: ‘Resus is never a fun place to be. There’s a lot of screaming 🙁 (not from Greg).’

In the following story, she wrote a long message to thank everyone who supported Greg through this difficult time.

‘Thanks for all your lovely messages to Greg. Sorry for being rubbish at answering.

‘My inbox was already a mess because the last few months have been manic so I need to work through them all properly. Greg is doing much better and recovering well,’ ending with a heart emoji.

Taking to Instagram to thank fans for their ‘kind messages’, Greg took a selfie from his bed and wrote: ‘Recovery sort of starts now…

‘After a pretty rough first night, I’m looking forward to getting everything fixed and stitched up so I can get back to normal. Thank you very much for your kind messages.’

Ryan Thomas skated to victory and was crowned Dancing On Ice’s 2024 winner alongside professional partner Amani Fancy during Sunday’s action-packed live final.

The former Coronation Street star, 39, beat Made In Chelsea’s Miles Nazaire and partner Vanessa Bauer after DJ Adele Roberts finished third and Olympian Greg Rutherford was forced to pull out hours before the show due to injury.

After his win, an emotional Ryan choked back tears as he lifted the trophy and admitted he was speechless before paying tribute to his partner, saying: ‘I’m just so happy for Amani!’.

Meanwhile, the professional burst into tears and told the actor: ‘I’m so proud of you, thank you for making it happen’.

Ryan then turned to the camera and sent his best wishes to the missing co-finalist: ‘Greg, if you’re watching at home, this trophy is for you.’

It comes after Greg checked in with fans from hospital as he took to his Instagram story to wish his fellow contestants the best of luck ahead of the live show.

He said: ‘I know it looks very dramatic and all, but unfortunately I got a big injury during rehearsals.

‘I’m on my way to hospital and I won’t be performing on Dancing On Ice tonight and I’m devastated but these things happen.

‘Keep you posted and I’ll keep you posted, but what a nightmare to end this on’.

In another video later from his hospital bed, he said: Good evening everyone and first a huge thank you for all the messages, but my message to the three incredible finalists who will be skating soon is have a great night.

‘I’m devastated that I can’t be there with you tonight. It’s going to be incredible and great to have a great show, love you all and hopefully I’ll see you all soon. Just go smash it, have the best!’

An ITV spokesperson added in a statement to MailOnline: ‘Unfortunately, Olympian Greg Rutherford MBE has had to withdraw from Dancing On Ice after sustaining an injury while rehearsing for the final episode of the current series.

‘Greg and Vanessa have been such a popular couple on this series and have performed some truly memorable routines.

‘We will help support Greg and wish him well in his recovery. We would also like to thank him for being such a treasured member of the Dancing on Ice family.’

Earlier this week, Greg told The Mirror that his time in the competition may be over after suffering a painful groin injury four weeks ago.

‘I was devastated at the start, that’s classic me, an injury at just the wrong time. But because of Sharon, the physio who works for the show has been working tirelessly to keep me going and doing well,’ the Olympian said.

‘We’re in a situation at the moment where, yes, it’s still healing and there’s a little bit of soreness and pressure. But I am able to do what we must. Fortunately, I’m here and I’m also excited to be here.’

The athlete admitted the final hurdle will be trying to clear the Bolero – although he is ‘delighted’ to have reached the final regardless.

Greg also highlighted being named best skater in the solo skate, something he called a ‘really proud moment’.

‘All in all, excited to pieces, I’m ignoring the fact that there’s still a little bit of damage, but that’s fine. I hope the showcase, everyone loves it and we get to do Bolero. So, who knows at that point, who knows!,” he added.

Greg previously revealed that exercise did wonders for his health and he was in great shape after losing 7kg since taking part in the ITV show.

The long jump star added his journey on Dancing On Ice helped him find a good balance while eating better and exercising.

The athlete – who is now retired – said the show gave him a purpose to exercise and ‘feel better about myself’, which he described as a ‘kick up the butt to stay fit and healthy’.
