Dan Walker thanks ‘the magic of makeup and prescription drugs’ as Channel 5 News star hosts first major event since horror bike crash

Dan Walker praised “the magic of makeup and prescription drugs” when he showed up at an awards show last night – seemingly without a scratch – just days after his horrific bike accident.

The Channel 5 News star showed off his remarkable recovery in a backstage video from the Royal Television Society Journalism Awards, his first public event since being hit by a car last week.

The 45-year-old former BBC Breakfast presenter first shared news of the incident with a post on Instagram, which showed him with facial cuts and a nosebleed.

He has since tracked his progress with a series of posts in the days that followed, but in a video shared last night, he appeared to be back to full fitness.

He said, ‘Hello everyone, Dan Walker here. We’ve just won the Royal Television Society’s journalism awards.

“We have big chandeliers, look at the stage, it’s pretty hip. We’ve had all the big hitters there tonight, throwing the gongs, people still enjoying a little celebration.

“Hope you enjoyed our Instagram stories and thank you for having me.

“Hope you had a great night, congratulations to all our winners and thanks for following us on Instagram Stories, see you again soon.”

Last night, he also shared pre-show photos on his Instagram story of himself on the train to London and later on an elevator with his tuxedo in a bag.

“Thank you @alliedrewmua for covering the bruises for the @royaltelevisionsociety awards,” he captioned the photo.

Speaking of last week’s accident, Mr Walker said he left his house early to catch the train and drove on the roundabout rather than a cycle path as it was often covered in broken glass.

The presenter said he had not been able to view the footage of the accident, but after speaking to police again on Thursday, he is “convinced” that he is not at fault in the accident.

Mr Walker has asked to speak to the driver and said he hopes the matter can be resolved out of court.
