Dame Julie, 69, said she had visited the doctor a year earlier with indigestion and “mild discomfort,” but later returned with stomach pains, heartburn, and vomiting.
She underwent a CT scan after being referred to a stomach surgeon and, while she was filming The Secret Garden, she received a phone call asking her to consult the specialist who told her it might be cancer.
“I still thought,” That’s ridiculous, he must have made a mistake. I couldn’t believe it, “said Lady Julie.
She remembers telling her husband Grant Roffey.
“I’ll never forget his face. Tears came to his eyes, “said Lady Julie.
