Dallas Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones said the team has no interest in signing former New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones.
Jones was released by the Giants on Friday morning by mutual agreement, ending a tumultuous tenure as the team’s starting quarterback since 2019.
Minutes after Jones became a free agent, his photo appeared on the Cowboys’ website as an active member of the roster.
However, the page about him was quickly deleted.
Now, official word has come from the organization regarding the potential move to NFC East teams for the former first-round draft pick.
“No, I think we’re in good shape at our quarterback position,” Jones said. ‘We think Cooper (Rush) gives us the best chance to win right now. And we certainly still want to see some.

The Cowboys could need a quarterback in the coming weeks with Dak Prescott’s injury
‘We’ll see how the season goes here. We’re still looking forward to seeing (Trey) Lance and we like what he brings to the table. And then, of course, in the long term, we all know that we make our commitment to Dak (Prescott) for the long term.”
The Cowboys have had a disappointing 2024 with Dak Prescott suffering a season-ending injury a few weeks ago.
Instead, Cooper Rush has started in Dallas and the team has not won without Prescott. Backing Rush up is former first-round pick Trey Lance.
Jones is looking for a fresh start after leading the Giants to a playoff appearance as the team’s starting quarterback.
Throughout his time as a Giant, Jones was very unpopular with the New York fan base, and he had a few opportunities after missteps to continue as the team’s starter.
