The Dallas Cowboys, who have already lost starting quarterback Dak Prescott for the remainder of the season, could be in even more trouble at the position as a backup has landed on the injury report.
Cooper Rush, who will make his second start for Dallas this season, was listed on the weekly injury report with a neck injury.
Despite this appointment, he was a full participant in training on Thursday and it is unclear whether he is expected to miss any playing time.
If Rush is sidelined due to this injury, the team will have to turn to third-string quarterback and former third overall pick Trey Lance to lead the Cowboys.
Lance has played in just one game so far this season, recording four completions on six pass attempts for 21 yards and one interception in last week’s loss to Philadelphia.
Lance was selected third overall in the 2021 NFL Draft by the San Francisco 49ers, who viewed the North Dakota State prospect as their potential quarterback of the future.

That leaves the Cowboys with the option of turning to third-string quarterback Trey Lance
He was put in charge of the franchise at the start of the 2022 season, but Lance suffered a season-ending injury in Week 2.
After an injury that season to backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, the Niners then passed the torch to third-stringer and “Mister Irrelevant” Brock Purdy, who led San Francisco to the NFC Championship game.
Once the 49ers decided they were going with Purdy as the starter going forward, they traded Lance to the Cowboys in the 2023 preseason in exchange for a fourth-round pick.
Lance spent all of 2023 as a healthy sum and the Cowboys declined his fifth-year option in May of this year.
The only reason the Cowboys are in this situation is due to an injury to the starting quarterback and $240 million man, Dak Prescott.
Prescott injured his hamstring in a loss to the Atlanta Falcons in Week 9, which turned out to be a partial avulsion of his right hamstring.
Just two days ago, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones confirmed that Prescott was undergoing a procedure to repair his hamstring, which would sideline him for the rest of the season.
Currently, the only quarterbacks available to the Cowboys are Rush, Lance and practice squad quarterback Will Grier — a fifth-year veteran who has spent most of his career as a backup.

The Cowboys will play the rival Houston Texans this week on Monday Night Football.
Unfortunately for Dallas, it’s unlikely to be a game that could turn their season around as they sit at 3-6 and have lost four straight.
The low point of their season may have been last week’s 34-6 loss at home to their division rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles.
In that game, the Cowboys put up just 146 yards of total offense and Rush completed 13 of 23 passes for a paltry 45 yards, no touchdowns and no interceptions. Lance stepped in and went 4-for-6 for 21 yards and a pick.
