While she doesn’t regret working on the snappy movie franchise, the actress said the original movie she signed up for wasn’t exactly the one they ended up doing.

‘That’s why I made those big nude movies. I signed up to make a very different version of the movie we ended up making.”

Dakota explained that the studio, the directors and the author of the book EL James, which goes by Erika, contributed to the problems for the film.

she said she [James] had a lot of creative control, all day, every day, and she just demanded certain things happen.”

“There were parts of the books that just wouldn’t work in a movie, like the inner monologue, which was incredibly cheesy at times. Saying it out loud wouldn’t work. It was always a struggle. Always. When I auditioned for that movie, I read a monologue from Persona [the 1966 Ingmar Bergman classic] and I thought, “Oh, this is going to be very special.”‘

The star also said James became furious when Charlie Hunnam, who was originally cast as Christian Grey, quit the film saying she cut the script.

Dakota said of her three-film contract: “I was young. I was 23. So it was scary. It just got crazy.

“There were many different disagreements. I’ve never been able to speak truthfully about this because you want to promote a movie the right way, and I’m proud of what we finally made and everything is as it should be, but it was difficult.”

Meanwhile, Dakota has been cast in the titular role of Spider-Man spin-off Madame Web, which is set to release sometime in 2023.
