Daisy Ridley made sure to pose up a storm when she attended the screening of the film Young Woman and the Sea in London on Wednesday night.

The actress, 32, wowed in a quirky black PVC midi dress that featured a daring plunging neckline.

Complete with puffed shoulder pads, Daisy cinched her waist with a matching black leather belt and accessorized the look with cream leather heels.

The star, who plays legendary swimmer Gertrude ‘Trudy’ Ederle in the film, smiled in the snaps as she slicked back her gelled hair and tucked her brunette locks behind her ears.

Young Woman And The Sea is based on the book of the same name by Glenn Stout, which was originally published in 2009.

The film focuses on the life of Gertrude Ederle, an Olympic gold medalist who became the first woman to swim across the English Channel in 1926.

In addition to Daisy, the film also stars Tilda Cobham-Hervey, Stephen Graham and Christopher Eccleston.

Daisy recently recalled a “mind-blowing” encounter she had with legendary long-distance swimmer Diana Nyad at the film’s recent premiere in Hollywood.

‘It was so surreal. “She was washing my hands in the bathroom, waiting for my people, and she walked in,” the Star Wars actor told THR on Tuesday.

“It was the most surreal thing. I kept saying, “This is so trippy, this is so trippy. You’re real. You did that and I just played the person who did that.”

‘But she was very encouraging because she could see that I had trained very hard. And it’s wonderful to hear, especially from the athletes who were there last night.

“I really wanted to do the swimmers justice and, on the physical side, I wanted to try to do everything I could to look capable and sell the story. So to get a pat on the back from Diana Nyad was great.”

The feeling was mutual for the motivational speaker 74, who wrote on Instagram on May 17 that Daisy was “captivating” in her performance as the first woman to swim the English Channel.

It’s been a year since Diana’s 110-mile journey across the Straits of Florida, at age 64, in 2013 was depicted in the critically acclaimed Netflix biopic Nyad starring Annette Bening.

Daisy was trained by an Olympic silver medalist called Siobhan-Marie O’Connor to more authentically play Trudy Ederle in Joachim Rønning’s biopic, which opens in limited theaters in the UK and US this Friday.

Speaking about the shoot, Daisy explained: ‘We did a day’s work underwater in a tank. We had done all the open water stuff in the Black Sea at night, which obviously had to be more controlled because it was more dangerous.

‘But then we did a day of work underwater and it was more comfortable to stay in the pool. So I took my little floating (lunch) tray and ate my lunch. It was nice.

‘But it’s that funny thing where you don’t want to eat too much. You’re starving because you’ve worked so hard, but basically you don’t want to eat too much in case you throw up.’

Development on the film began in 2015, when Bruckheimer obtained the rights to Stout’s novel.

Although Lily James was initially going to play Ederle, she left the project and Daisy joined the cast of the film in 2020.

Production on Young Woman And The Sea began in May 2022 and wrapped the following month.

The Ophelia star opened up about working on the film during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, stating that her previous training in action films didn’t necessarily prepare her for long periods of swimming.

“I feel like, overall, what I learned for Star Wars is transferable… but swimming is a different thing, so I felt like I was really starting from the beginning,” she said.

Daisy also admitted that while she was proud of her work on the film, she wasn’t planning on participating in any swimming competitions anytime soon.

“I’m so excited to play Trudy, what she did is incredible and I don’t need to swim anymore. I’ll watch people swim and cheer them on, I can’t wait for the Olympics,” she said.
