A children’s book bag with a pattern that uses animals to represent each letter of the alphabet has adults stumped as they try to identify the creatures correctly.
Post on the subreddit CasualUnited Kingdoma bewildered parent shared a snapshot of the bag, which has an entire A-Z alphabet with animals on the front, and asked fellow Redditors for help.
The dad wrote: ‘So we bought this busy book for our one-year-old full of zippers, button clips and such. But checking the alphabet on the front, a couple of letters have me stumped! What is I, V, X, Y?’
Help came in the form of confusion, more questions, and ambiguous guesses as the adults scrambled to conclude what the characters were meant to portray.
The backpack, which has been designed for young children to learn the alphabet, has adult Reddit users stumped as they try to solve the mysterious designs.
The father started the conversation by commenting under the photo: ‘It won’t drive you crazy if you think about it too much.’
Some Reddit users expressed great confusion at the cryptic characters, with some coming up with nonsensical answers to mock the weirdness and difficulty behind the children’s design.
One user responded to the original poster by saying, “I thought (“N”) looked like one of those moles with the funny star-shaped noses.” But then I couldn’t think how big an N was.’
Another said: ‘What the hell is A, F, J, N, O, Q or X???? And he is Yak and I think V is Vampire Bat. I am Inch Worm. Is F supposed to be a fox? Because that doesn’t look like a fox.
Another perplexed user said: ‘What I thought was a unicorn is missing the critical horn. Not a unicorn?

Reddit users were sent into a spiral trying to guess some of the letters, with N, U, V, W, X, and Y generating more confusion than some of the other letters. Fortunately, someone provided a conclusive solution.

One user swooped in to save the day by listing the most accurate answers for each letter, and the original poster thanked him for being a “hero.”
One commenter jokingly said, ‘X and Y seem to be Pokémon,’ while another joked, ‘I’m pretty sure W is for ‘What kind of worm is that?’
One more user mused: ‘The thing on the X looks a bit like a cow’s nose. She’s not an ox, is she?
The father behind the original post wrote: ‘Could be, but that’s a poor show as X and Y would be the same. Do you think the designer gave up towards the end?
The father continued to make guesses throughout the thread of the conversation, even going so far as to think of obscure and lesser-known animals that may not even have been taught to elementary school children yet.
He said: ‘I was thinking of an otter, a webbed-footed rodent that is more agile in water than on land. It will be fun to explain it to her (her daughter) when he is older and asks.’
However, one Reddit user finally seemed to save the day, and the sanity of fellow Redditers, by providing a precise list of responses to each of the letters, with many thanking him for his conclusive contribution.
The commentator revealed that N can be “nest”, U is “unicorn”, V is “vampire bat”, W is “worm”, X is “Xenarthra”, and Y is “Yak”.
Xenarthra is a dark choice because it’s a group of mammals, including anteaters, armadillos, and sloths, rather than a single creature.
The user went on to explain the puzzling design behind the letter N, saying, ‘N is the craziest to me. The person who snagged this pattern printed it wrong.
The shape in the bottom right is supposed to be an egg in the center (that’s the oval part) and it’s supposed to have sticks around it (that’s the other part with the light lines coming out). N’s eye is supposed to be a bird.
The original poster responded to the solution with heartfelt gratitude and relief, saying, “You sir are a hero.”
