A Georgia man is sentenced to life in prison for killing his four-month-old son in 2017, just hours after he complained about the child on Facebook.

Ortiz Deion Smothers, Jr., pleaded guilty on Monday morning to one count by Felony Murder in the Superior Court of Houston County.

The 23-year-old was sentenced immediately after his plea and was sentenced to life imprisonment in the penitentiary with the possibility of conditional release.

Smothers are eligible for conditional release after a minimum of 30 years.

The horrific incident happened on the morning of 12 June 2017 in the city of Perry.

Smothers and his son, Omar Smothers, reportedly stayed in a cousin's house at the time.

Smothers was the only caretaker who started around 7:30 am and started posting his frustrations on Facebook shortly thereafter.

Omar reportedly did not respond and the side of his head began to swell.

Authorities were sent to the house at 10.50 a.m. and Omar was taken to the pediatric I.C.U of Navicent Health.

Doctors determined that the child contracted several bilateral fractures in his skull and believed that the injuries were not consistent with any form of accidental cause.

They previously believed that the injuries were intentional.

On June 13, Omar was declared brain dead and removed from living.

The sheriff's office in Houston County led a death investigation and discovered that Smothers was the only person with Omar during the injuries.

Several witnesses said there was nothing wrong with the child earlier that morning before Smothers was left alone with Omar.

The arrest warrant said Smothers was in a bad mood.
