An Australian shopper instantly shocked thousands of people after revealing how much sugar is in BBQ sauce.

Jordyn Evans, founder of natural spice brand Mingle Seasoning, was equally surprised to discover that 45g of a standard BBQ sauce is equivalent to a variety of sugary snacks.

The Melbourne founder posted a video comparing the sauce portion to Tim Tams, Coca-Cola, Froot Loops and Scotch Finger biscuits.

‘How much Coca-Cola, Tim Tams and Biscoff can you eat for one serving of BBQ sauce?’ he said in the clip.

“You would be surprised to know that this small amount of BBQ sauce is equivalent to the sugar in 180 ml of Coca-Cola.”

The average serving of BBQ sauce is also equivalent to more than three servings of Biscoff, two and a half Tim Tams, or a bowl of Froot Loops.

The sugary content of the BBQ sauce was a surprise that no one expected and the video exceeded 910,000 views.

“This hurts my feelings,” one person admitted.

“But BBQ sauce is life,” said another. “My healthy egg wrap made with mountain bread and organic eggs is ruined.”

‘Sugar has been introduced into many everyday foods. And for those like me, who have a sweet tooth, it is difficult to reduce their consumption,” added another.

In April, an Australian personal trainer revealed why you should opt for block cheese rather than grated when shopping.

Danni Duncan, founder of fitness app Fit by the Figure, surprised thousands when she shared a little-known difference between the two products.

While at her local supermarket, Danni gave an example when comparing the ingredients of two forms of Devondale mozzarella cheese.

The block version contains pasteurized milk, starter culture milk, salt and non-animal rennet. The grated version contains the same ingredients but also has 460 anti-caking agent and 200 preservative.

Anti-caking agent 460 prevents cheese from sticking once shredded, while preservative 200 stops yeast growth.
