CSI is back! The Crime Lab Prosecution returns to CBS with original stars William Petersen and Jorja Fox

Six years after ending its 15-year run, CSI returns to CBS.

Revived as CSI: Vegas, original stars William Petersen, Jorja Fox and Wallace Langham are all reprising their roles, THR.com reported Wednesday.

The network has given the go-ahead for a direct-to-series order for the show to be created by Jerry Bruckheimer Television and CBS Studios.

Bruckheimer, the show’s executive producer, said in a statement, “ I am delighted to bring the CSI franchise back to all of our fans who have been so loyal to us all these years.

“And being back in Las Vegas where it all started over 20 years ago makes it even more special.”

He added, “We have enjoyed working on this project with CBS and look forward to welcoming Billy, Jorja and Wallace again as they join a new group of talented actors in CSI: Vegas.”

CSI, which premiered in October 2000, starred Petersen as Gil Grissom, head of the Las Vegas crime lab.

He left after nine seasons, but returned for the two-part finale of Season 15.

Fox played Harvard graduate and materials and elements analyst Sara Sidle, while Langham played track engineer David Hodges.

Fox was a regular for 14 of the show’s 15 seasons, playing only occasionally in season nine. Langham joined the series in 2003 and stayed until the end.

The original show also featured Marg Helgenberger as Grissom’s second-in-command in the crime lab, as well as regular guests George Eads, Gary Dourdan and Paul Guilfoyle.

CSI – which stands for Crime Scene Investigation, spawned three spin-offs – CSI: Miami, CSI: New York and CSI: Cyber.

CBS Entertainment president Kelly Kahl promised on Wednesday that CSI fans would not be disappointed with the new incarnation.

“ Crimefighting technology has advanced tremendously in recent years, and coupled with classic CSI storytelling, we can’t wait to see this new CSI team do what they do best: follow the evidence, ” Kahl said in a statement .
