Big winner: Bet 365 boss Denise Coates
Bet 365, run by Britain’s highest-paid woman, has been hit with more than half a million pounds over anti-money laundering failures.
The Gambling Commission said Denise Coates’ online gambling group also failed to properly monitor high-risk gamblers.
Bet 365 was ordered to pay £582,120, which will go to an undisclosed ‘socially responsible’ cause.
The watchdog said the bookmaker, which owns Stoke City football club, failed to adequately check new customers before their first deposits, putting it at risk of not being caught for money laundering.
And when it came to preventing harmful gambling, the system to target those who might be at risk was ‘not demonstrably effective’.
Coates, pictured, founder and CEO, has earned around £1.2 billion over the past four years.
The watchdog’s Kay Roberts said: ‘We expect high standards from operators when it comes to keeping gambling safe, fair and crime-free.’
