Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon bizarrely received a red card at the same time as being named man of the match towards the end of his team’s incredible 4-3 comeback win at home to West Ham.

Gordon put in an impressive performance at St James’ Park and was selected by TNT Sports co-commentator Lucy Ward as player of the match.

However, just as Ward was announcing his decision, Gordon received a red card for a second bookable offense when he kicked the ball in the fourth minute of stoppage time. His first booking came early in the second half for a foul on Mohammed Kudus.

Gordon had been heavily involved earlier in the game when he won a penalty which Alexander Isak converted to put Newcastle up 1-0 in the third minute.

West Ham then prevailed in the process, with Michail Antonio equalizing before Kudus put the visitors ahead and Jarrod Bowen made it 3-1.

Newcastle were subsequently awarded another penalty when Gordon was fouled, and Isak again made no mistake from the spot.

Harvey Barnes scored a brace to give Newcastle the win, and Gordon scored the decisive goal.

It was certainly an eventful afternoon for Gordon, who returned to action for Newcastle after making his first two appearances for England during the international break.

Gordon was sent off late for a second bookable offense when he kicked the ball.
