An American man was rescued by a woman after he was seen wandering around a Medellín shopping center after he was allegedly drugged and robbed.

The victim was seen asking shoppers at the San Lucas shopping center on Sunday morning to help him contact his mother at home when a good Samaritan did so, El Colombiano newspaper reported.

In January, Medellín police arrested Sharit Mejía and two men for the December murder of community activist and American comedian Tou Ger Xiong.

In response, the The US Embassy in Colombia warned travelers about using dating apps.

The embassy indicated that several of the deaths pointed to “possible drugs, robberies and overdoses and several involve the use of online dating applications.”

The embassy also advised American visitors that they should “seriously consider gathering only in public places and avoiding isolated locations, such as residences or hotel rooms, where crime is more likely to occur.”

“It is also recommended that if Americans decide to invite a person they met to a home or hotel, they speak with the attendant/concierge beforehand and establish a policy on what information their new visitor must provide before they are allowed entry ( identification photo, etc.) and what process should be followed when the visitor leaves,” the mission said.
