Cristiano Ronaldo has always been a player who wears his heart on his sleeve and is unashamedly passionate.
It’s what makes it great all-time and a devastating winning machine.
However, it is the same reason why he collapses in front of the watching eyes of millions around the world.
Last week, the final episode of Ronaldo’s football fury aired, just as Portugal closed their World Cup qualifier with Serbia.
Cristiano Ronaldo boiled over against Serbia after his late goal against Serbia was not conceded
Ronaldo defeated Serbia goalkeeper Marko Dmitrovic to a long ball and set him aside towards goal
Ronaldo made an attempt towards goal and it looked in, but the referees said it was not over
Ronaldo, as he has done so many times before, was ready to win the match in the last moments for his country after bypassing the goalkeeper and throwing the ball into an open goal.
Cameras around the stadium picked up the ball across the line, but the referee thought otherwise – without the help of technology.
The goal was scored and Ronaldo almost burst out of his blood vessels. The veteran star tore off his captain’s armband, threw it on the turf and dashed off the field.
The referee later apologized for his error of judgment, although Ronaldo rightly continued to cook.
It already showed something that the passion is certainly still there. Ronaldo has cooked over and over again. Sportsmail looked back on the most controversial cases …
In Ronaldo’s last season for United, he played and scored against Manchester City in the local derby before being removed just before the hour.
It’s safe to say he absolutely despised it.
Ronaldo is a player who wants to be involved in every game and be the star attraction.
After he already scored, everything would go to plan for the attacker.
It was a derby day, the sun was high in the sky and United was on track to win again thanks to his performance. So it was a bitter shock to see his number seven on the plate of the fourth official.
After running into a Manchester derby in which he had already scored, Ronaldo imploded
It was, of course, a tactical decision. United continued to fight for the Champions League and manager Sir Alex Ferguson clearly felt that Ronaldo could use a break.
However, that kind of thing is not in Ronaldo’s rulebook. He was on the hunt for the golden boot at the time and wanted to continue his dominance in English football and see as many records set as possible before moving on.
After crossing the sidelines, Ronaldo snatched a jacket before throwing it on the United bench.
Then he looked some tears, before shaking his head and rubbing his eyes and forehead furiously.
Note to all managers: do not replace Cristiano Ronaldo.
Anger on Nani
Ronaldo is very proud of his stuff for Portugal, so when a bona fide miracle goal was taken from him, he was furious.
The incident came during Portugal’s 4-0 destruction of then world champions Spain, in 2010, and would lead to a very uncomfortable exchange with his former Manchester United teammate Nani.
The winger went so far as to issue a public apology to Ronaldo in the aftermath for stealing his glory.
Ronaldo got off to a dazzling run and Spanish players just couldn’t get close to him
A delicate lob set up what was destined to become an all-ages goal, but then Nani came in
As the strike had been ruled out, Ronaldo was furious and knocked down his bracelet again
Ronaldo had danced through the Spanish defense with magical feet. The mesmerizing movement left the world in awe and a stadium full of open-mouthed spectators.
It went effortlessly and Ronaldo completed the action with a daring shovel over goalkeeper Iker Casillas’s head.
But when it fell and was about to cross the line, Nani came in with an unnecessary header to void the entire action for offside.
Ronaldo initially celebrated … but he knew it.
As soon as the linesman raised his flag, the Portuguese talisman dangled on the spot as it thrust viciously into the air, before turning and addressing Nani directly.
The anger in his eyes was more than evident, despite the game being well in favor of Portugal and only an alleged friendly.
Hungary horror show
By conceding to Hungary at EURO 2016, Ronaldo simply fell over the edge.
The game was 2-2 after 55 minutes when a long-range effort dove into the back of the Portuguese net.
Ronaldo was clearly outraged that his side had come out of rest and so quickly gave in in such an unnecessary way.
After putting Portugal back in the lead, Ronaldo spit out his feathers after Hungary scored
Just five minutes earlier, Ronaldo had scored himself to level Portugal, after Zoltan Gera opened the scoring at 16 minutes and Balazs Dzsudzsak also found the back of the net.
The meltdown he went through on the field was broadcast worldwide. A red mist descended and Ronaldo began to thrust furiously into the air again as he screamed into the abyss.
He would score again in the match, although Portugal would eventually draw the group stage tie, which everyone expected to win, 3-3.
An incident in Madrid has long been remembered, when Ronaldo’s anger spiked on the field … despite his team having just scored.
In extraordinary scenes, Ronaldo was clearly outraged that defender Alvaro Arbeloa had scored from close range instead of him.
It was Arbeloa’s first goal of the season for Real Madrid, but Ronaldo quickly lashed out with his petulation.
The LaLiga match, played against Almeria in 2015, was comfortably won 3-0 by Madrid, but Ronaldo felt himself short after waiting to tap the ball into an open goal.
Ronaldo waited to tap the ball against Almeira, but Alvaro Arbeloa got the ball for him
Furious because he was on the hunt for the golden boot, Ronaldo hit the ball into the net
The fact that Arbeloa had been there earlier angered the star forward, and his anger showed in the celebrations that followed.
Ronaldo rammed the ball into the net after the goal entered, before running away from the rest of his teammates, who were quick to harass former Liverpool man Arbeloa.
With his face shrunken, Ronaldo returned to the center line. As was the norm, Ronaldo chased his rival Lionel Messi for the golden boot as the season approached its final weeks, so it meant so much to him.
After the game, Arbeloa said, “I’m not upset about Cristiano’s gesture.
“It’s normal for him to be angry, he didn’t score and his ambition is always to score.”
Seeing red in Bilbao
After kicking up and down the entire game, Ronaldo broke up.
He knew he was the best player in the stadium and the treatment he received was – in his eyes – quite ridiculous.
Bilbao had just tied the score minutes before Ronaldo made a mistake and then raised his hand when confronted by Ander Iturraspe, who quickly rose to his face to thwart him.
It was exactly the response the Bilbao man had hoped for.
After being sent off against Bilbao, Ronaldo could only laugh, which quickly turned to anger
Ronaldo was sent off for the incident as the Bilbao star escaped with a yellow card, causing a boil over the field.
That was his anger and disbelief at what was happening, Ronaldo could only smile. Later, through the tunnel, he threw his boots against a wall.
Madrid would drop points in a year that Atletico Madrid claimed the title on the last day of the season.
European marching orders
Ronaldo may have his mistakes and let his mood take over, but he always – always – brings his A match to the Champions League.
That’s why this incident was so shocking.
Ronaldo allowed indiscipline to gain the upper hand and got the red card for Juventus against Valenica.
It was definitely not how the script was supposed to go.
Juventus broke the bank to bring Ronaldo to Turin despite his aging years simply because he was Mr European Football.
Ronaldo was on the verge of tears and was even comforted by Valencia boss Marcelino
Ronaldo loves the Champions League and is the league’s all-time top scorer.
So when he was carelessly fired from the Spanish side for pulling Jeison Murillo’s hair, he was furious.
At first he couldn’t quite believe it, then had to be stopped by teammates as soon as the realization started.
After leaving the field, Ronaldo stopped on the sidelines and appeared to be in tears, even being comforted by Valencia’s Spanish coach Marcelino Garcia Toral.
Ronaldo had scored in the game, from the penalty spot, and Juve saw the game 2-0 after Miralem Pjanic also slid home from 12 yards. Ronaldo even got the card withdrawn.
But the fact that it almost cost his side progression in his beloved Champions League almost pushed Ronaldo over the edge.
