A two-year deal has been agreed and United have also been reported to have included a clause to extend the contract for another season.

While United fan eagerly awaits official confirmation of his return, he has been pictured training for Portugal ahead of their World Cup qualifiers.

Ronaldo gave the camera a thumbs up in a photo posted on Portugal’s official Twitter page.

He is training with Bruno Fernandes, who will be one of his new teammates at Old Trafford.

Fernandes spoke to Ronaldo about the move and posted a caption from ‘agent Fernandes’ after United revealed they had struck a deal.

Ronaldo is also training alongside Bernardo Silva, Joao Cancelo and Ruben Dias, all of whom would have been his teammates had he decided to move to Manchester City.

Portugal will face the Republic of Ireland on Wednesday, before taking on the 2022 World Cup in a friendly against Qatar and Azerbaijan on September 7.

It is hoped that Ronaldo will be available for United’s next game against Newcastle on September 11.

The transfer window closes tomorrow and visa details are finalized before Ronaldo’s return to United is officially completed.

It will be an emotional return for the Portuguese superstar who left the club 12 years ago to build a record career with Real Madrid.

Ronaldo is expected to have agreed on a £480,000-a-week contract with United, which will make him the highest paid player in the Premier League.

A three-year stint at United would comfortably see Ronaldo become the oldest player in the league. Currently, that honor belongs to Chelsea defender Thiago Silva at 36 years, 11 months and five days.

Ronaldo is currently 36 years, six months and 11 days old, so when he comes to Chelsea he will be behind Silva at Chelsea.

The visa details are being finalized before Ronaldo’s move to United is officially completed and the Old Trafford outfit can reveal the Portuguese star ahead of his second spell at Old Trafford.

Ahead of United’s 1-0 win over Wolves on Sunday, manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer backed Ronaldo to take the team to a new level.

“Hopefully we can get the paperwork in order and announce it,” Solskjaer said. “He’s a great player, a great person. I am excited to continue building this squad. He will bring something completely different.

“Let’s get him back to United after the break and hopefully he will be involved as soon as possible. He will make us a better team.

“Hopefully Cristiano can come in and show what he’s done in his career. I’m sure he loves all the talk about being old. Make it personal and he’ll show you what he can do.’
