Cristiano Ronaldo is concerned about Manchester United’s transfer strategy this summer, according to Spanish reports.

While Premier League leaders Manchester City and Liverpool spent a lot of money last season on Erling Haaland and Darwin Nunez respectively, new United boss Erik ten Hag has yet to make his first purchase.

The Red Devils are strongly associated with midfielders Frenkie de Jong and Christian Eriksen, but have no incoming players yet, a Spanish newspaper reports. AS Says Ronaldo is increasingly concerned that United’s rivals are pulling out again.

The report – from AS’ Manu Sainz, who is close to Ronaldo’s agent Jorge Mendes – says the 37-year-old is “concerned” about United’s lack of activity so far.

It added that the Portuguese legend was ‘determined’ to finish the last year of his contract at Old Trafford but now has ‘doubts’ due to United’s inaction.

United are currently still around £12million short of Barcelona’s £72million valuation for Holland international De Jong, while talks over a move for Eriksen have cooled in recent weeks.

United CEO Richard Arnold was caught on camera talking to fans about the club’s finances last weekend and insisted the money is there to bolster the first-team roster this summer.

Arsenal and Tottenham have also strengthened in recent weeks with the midfield signings of Fabio Vieira and Yves Bissouma respectively.

Ronaldo returned to United last summer on a two-year deal and was the club’s top scorer with 24 goals in all competitions.

But he was involved in an unforgettable season for United, who finished sixth in the Premier League and failed to progress to the final stages of one of the cup competitions.

Meanwhile, it is becoming increasingly likely that Anthony Martial will be involved in the first team next season, with Ten Hag ‘accepting that he may have to find a place for the Frenchman’ in his plans following a lack of transfer interest.
