GWS Giants fans not only had to watch their team let a 44-point lead slip away on Saturday night at Engie Stadium against the Brisbane Lions, but they also got to witness the Wiggles rub salt in the wound.

The Lions cruised to a 15.15 (105) to 15.10 (100) victory over GWS in their semi-final despite trailing by 44 points in the third quarter.

The Wiggles were thrilled with the result, with Blue Wiggle Anthony Field and Purple Wiggle Lachie Gillespie producing a cheeky video to celebrate.

In the clip, Field attacks GWS by drinking an orange for his fruit salad.

“The Lions won. Let’s make a Brisbane Lions fruit salad,” Gillespie says.

‘We are the pride of Brisbane City, wearing maroon, blue and gold.

‘Step one, a maroon apple. Step two, blueberries. Step three, a golden kiwi.

“All for one and one for all.”

Not all football fans were happy with the Wiggles’ risqué tune.

In the next scene, Field says, ‘Hey Lachy, do you want a Giants orange for the fruit salad?

‘But.’

The risqué song ends with Gillespie singing: “All for one and one for all. Go lions!”

The clip received mixed reviews from fans, with more than one person disagreeing with it.

“This is the worst thing I’ve ever seen,” posted one X user.

“I cringe,” another replied.

“You have time to delete this,” said a third.

“Oh my god… the social media team should put down the crack pipe and go to bed, this is embarrassing,” another responded.

Brisbane will now face Geelong in a rematch of the 2022 preliminary final, which the Cats won by 71 points.

The Lions reached last year’s grand final, only to suffer a four-point defeat to Collingwood.

Coach Chris Fagan, when asked if his players drew inspiration from the pain of last year’s grand final during their thrilling comeback, was frank.

“Probably,” Fagan said.

‘I know they’re desperate to get back there and have another chance.

“There’s still a long way to go before we can achieve that. Next week we face Geelong, a very good club and football team, who taught us a lesson in a preliminary final a couple of years ago.

“But I have no doubt that that is what motivates them.

‘I look at Dayne Zorko and that motivates him, you know he’s 35 years old. He doesn’t know how many years he has left to play and he desperately wants to win one.

“I think that’s what drove the group. Joey Daniher is the same way. The guys on our team that are a little bit older, they really did their best in that fourth quarter.”
