Cricket fans were left stunned on Wednesday night after Zimbabwe obliterated records by shooting home a ridiculous total of 4-344 during their T20 World Cup qualifier against Gambia.

In the match, Zimbabwe achieved a 290-run victory, and Gambia were bowled out by 54 runs.

Zimbabwe’s incredible total is a new record in T20 international cricket, with captain Sikandar Raza and his team surpassing the previous 3-314 set by Nepal against Mongolia in September 2023.

Raza also enjoyed an excellent afternoon in the area, posting a score of 133 without being out, while Tadiwanashe Marumani scored 62, the team’s second-highest score.

The Gambia only became an associate member of the ICC in 2017, and the team played only 13 T20 Internationals.

But Zimbabwe brutally put them to the sword, breaking several other records during the match.

Raza hit seven fours and 15 sixes during his innings, running his pace in just 33 deliveries, making his century the third-fastest in T20I history.

His innings also put him fifth in the order of most six-hitters in a single T20I match, three short of the record achieved by Estonian Sahil Chauhan against Cyprus in June.

It was simply a dominant display by Zimbabwe in the African sub-regional qualifier for the T20 World Cup and one commentator, Adam Theofilatos, was surprised by their margin of victory.

Since Zimbabwe won all four of their qualifying matches, it looks like they will qualify for the regional final alongside Kenya.

Kenya has also not lost a match so far but will face Zimbabwe later today in its final match of the African sub-regional qualifiers for the Group B T20 World Cup.
