Just days after Sylvester Stallone confirmed he won’t be appearing in the upcoming Creed III, star director Michael B. Jordan revealed why.

Jordan, 31, was confirmed last month not only to return as Adonis Creed, but to make his directorial debut with the sequel.

Stallone, 74, revealed in an Instagram comment last week that ‘it will happen, but I won’t get in’ in regards to Creed III, although Jordan commented more in an interview with IGN for his new Amazon movie Without Remorse.

‘(We) really want to build this story and this world [Adonis] Come on, ”Jordan began.

“Yeah, I think Sly said he wasn’t coming back for this, but I think, you know, his essence and his mind … there will always be a little bit of Rocky in Adonis,” Jordan added.

Jordan added that he always has ‘respect’ and ‘as ** t-ton of love’ for what Stallone built the Rocky franchise into, but he wants to focus more on Adonis.

‘We really want to move forward and navigate Adonis and the family he founded. So hopefully you guys will enjoy what I think … what we’re cooking. I think it’s going to be something special, ”Jordan said.

The news isn’t terribly surprising given that Stallone took to his Instagram in late November 2018, just after Creed II was released, saying he was “ retiring ” his Rocky Balboa character.

“I want to thank everyone around the world for having embraced the Rocky family for over 40 years,” Stallone began.

‘It has been my ultimate privilege to have been able to create and play this meaningful character. Though it breaks my heart, unfortunately all things must pass… and end, ”he said.

‘I love you. Kind and generous people, and best of all, ROCKY will never die because he lives on in you… ”he concluded.

As for Creed III, no details have been given for the story, with Jordan directing from a script by Zach Baylin.

Stallone had previously said he wanted real-life boxer Deontay Wilder to play Rocky III’s son Clubber Lang (Mr. T) for Creed III, although it has not been confirmed whether that story will come true.

Creed followed Jordan’s character Adonis Creed, the son of the late heavyweight champion Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers), who is coached by his father’s longtime friend Rocky Balboa.

The sequel Creed II followed the boxer as he fought Viktor Drago (Florian Munteanu), the son of Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren), who murdered Adonis’ father.
