Creed III rakes in an impressive $5.45 million from preview screenings ahead of its official Friday release as it is expected to make $40 million this weekend

Creed III grossed an impressive $5.45 million with previews on Wednesday and Thursday.

According to deadlinenearly three-quarters of preview ticket sales for the Michael B. Jordan movie starring came from Thursday night screenings, and it’s expected to gross about $40 million over its opening weekend.

The third film in the Creed series, which premiered in Los Angeles earlier this week, beat its predecessors in terms of total gross from preview screenings.

The first Creed movie was released in 2015 and was followed up by a 2018 sequel.

Both feature films, which also starred Sylvester Stallone as Rocky Balboa, received positive reviews from critics upon their respective debuts.

The development of the third feature film in the series was revealed to the public in September 2019.

It was revealed that Jordan would make his directorial debut for the project the following year.

However, Stallone announced he would not be returning to his old role for the third film last April.

Production went ahead without the actor and Jonathan Majors was cast as the film’s main antagonist, Damian Anderson, in November 2021.

Several artists from the previous Creed films returned to work on the new film, including Tessa Thompson, Phylicia Rashad and Florian Munteanu.

Physical production on the feature began last January and continued for several months before the film crew shut down in April.

The world premiere of Creed III took place in Mexico City last month and was released in theaters in the United States on Friday.

The film has also received positive reception from critics and currently has a rating of 87% Rotten tomatoes.

Jordan recently spoke to Complex and stated that he felt comfortable adding emotionally charged moments to a boxing-focused film.

“It just felt like it was a natural evolution of the story and the character and we went with that,” he said.

The artist also expressed his gratitude for the continued support of the film’s fans.

“I’m humbled and honored that people react to it the way they are and the fact that they’re touched by it and they understand it,” he said.

Jordan further noted that he intended to continue the Adonis Creed story.

“I feel like the Creedverse is definitely going to expand and grow and it could go in different ways. But you’ll be seeing more of the Creed family in the future. I can say that,” he said.
