A convicted murderer was seen attacking the father of a teenager he killed over a pair of Yeezy sneakers.
Adrian Crosby, 23, was found guilty Friday and sentenced to life in prison in a Florida court for fatally shooting 18-year-old Andrea Camps Lacayo in 2020 during a violent shoe exchange.
As the girl’s father, Alex Camps, referred to his daughter’s killer as an “animal” and a “monster” during his victim impact statement, Crosby swore at the man and suddenly jumped toward him.
Several Miami-Dade corrections officers restrained Camps before dragging him out of the courtroom, while the slain girl’s family also had to be pulled away from the killer.
“You are the epitome of evil and darkness that this world represents,” the father told Crosby. ‘There’s only one place animals like you belong, and that’s in prison for the rest of your life.
After hearing a shocking statement from the father of the teenager he killed during court Friday, Adrian Crosby, 23, dramatically lashed out at the family and swore before being escorted outside.
Andrea Camps Lacayo, 18, was shot and killed on April 7, 2020 after she and her boyfriend Sergio Berben met with George Walton, 19, to sell a pair of Yeezy sneakers. Crosby suddenly shot the couple during the exchange.
“This court today confirmed once again the truth we are all seeking: the truth that you are a fool, a liar and a monster for what you did not only to Andrea but to all of our family and friends,” he added.
Crosby then angrily responded: ‘What the fuck are you talking about, bitch?’ as he stood up and rushed towards his victim’s grieving family.
On April 7, 2020, Camps Lacayo and her boyfriend, Sergio Berben, set up a trade with 19-year-old George Walton because they hoped to sell the $935 pair of Adidas sneakers, released by rapper Kanye West.
The couple, trying to make extra money during the Covid-19 pandemic, met Walton outside an abandoned house in Homestead.
Walton asked the young couple if he could try on the expensive shoes, but Berben insisted he show proof of payment first, according to an arrest report obtained by NBCMiami.
Crosby then approached Berben’s vehicle from the driver’s side and opened fire on him and his high school girlfriend.
Camps Locayo’s father, Alex Camps, is seen looking at Crosby after he cursed him during his statement, surrounded by his family.
Camps Locayo was shot at least once in the torso, while Berben was shot in the arm.
Berben then drove away frantically before stopping on the side of the road, where he realized his girlfriend was dying.
When first responders arrived, they found Camps Locayo fading in and out of consciousness, the outlet reported.
The couple was rushed to Jackson South Medical Center, where Camps Lacayo died in surgery. NBC Miami reported at the time.
Both Walton and Crosby were arrested in connection with her murder.
Although Walton did not fire the gun, he was convicted of first-degree murder and attempted murder in February. A judge also sentenced him to life in prison.
The girl’s father called his daughter’s killer an “animal” and a “monster” during his victim impact statement just before Crosby’s outburst occurred.
At the time of the horrible crime, Camps Locayo was shot at least once in the torso, while Berben’s arm was grazed by a bullet. He later died in hospital during surgery. (In the photo: the young couple)
Crosby’s trial began Tuesday and on Friday he was found guilty of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and attempted robbery with a deadly weapon.
During the emotional trial, Berben told the jury: “He shot and killed my girlfriend and tried to kill me too.”
Camps Lacayo was a senior and captain of her high school dance team.
Miami-Dade Police Sgt. Jenna Parmenter also testified and recalled the moment the young woman asked ‘if he was going to be okay.’
“He blacked out and closed his eyes,” Parmenter said.
After the outburst in the courtroom, Crosby was taken back inside without Camps Lacayo’s family, where Miami-Dade Circuit Court Judge Miguel M. De la O handed him two life sentences.
The killer also received a concurrent 25-year sentence for the attempted robbery.
On Saturday, the victim’s father took to Facebook to share his thoughts on how his daughter got justice years after her death.
‘Today we put our daughter Andrea’s murderer behind bars for life. Even today, as I write these words, I can’t believe this has happened to such a sweet, innocent soul.
The couple met Walton (left) that day and he asked her to try on the shoes before showing proof of purchase. Crosby (right) approached the couple and opened fire before they left. Both were arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment.
Her family has also created a foundation for her called Andrea’s Smiles For Hope, where they raise donations to support sick children in their community.
‘This is not a victory because it still does not eliminate the pain or give us back our daughter. What we can do now is heal from all the pain and suffering this has caused. We love you Andrea and we will always keep your spirit and memory alive. RIP,” he wrote.
Camps Lacayo was a senior and captain of her high school dance team.
She was set to graduate from Terra Environmental Research Institute and planned to study nursing at Florida International University.
