Officers used pepper spray but the man ran into the burning house.

He was taken out of the house and harassed because he had armed himself with a knife, police say.

The suspect was taken to Blacktown Hospital for treatment and accused of breaking and entering, opposing an officer in execution of his duty and charged with other outstanding cases, including crimes related to domestic violence.

He was refused on bail through a bedside hearing and was ordered to appear in Blacktown Local Court on Monday.
