Crane drops concrete load, kills man, leaves others fighting for life

Emergency service workers are seen at the scene of an accident at a construction site in Box Hill, Melbourne.

One man is dead and another is fighting for life after a crane lifting a concrete vat at a Melbourne job site dropped its load.

It is believed that the crane dropped the concrete into a well at the Box Hill construction site on Whitehorse Road, where three men were working around 12.20pm.

Victoria Ambulance's senior intensive care paramedic, Gary Robertson, told reporters at the site that one man had died, another was taken to the hospital with serious injuries and a third man had minor injuries and was being evaluated at the hospital.

"This has been a particularly tragic event," he said.
