CEO berates employees for common work habits: ‘This generation is just selfish’

A Sydney CEO has labeled those who work from home as ‘selfish’.
CR Commercial Property Group CEO and CEO Nicole Duncan called 2GB Mornings Monday to comment on people’s ability to work from home.
‘This generation is just selfish,’ Ms Duncan told presenter Ben Fordham, describing herself as someone ‘passionate about people going back to work’.

“In our younger years, we took trains, buses, and ferries to get to work,” she said.
“Yes, it took two or three hours, but you have to be at the office.
“You don’t know what you don’t know, and until CEOs make a decision… it won’t change.”
She went on to describe how she believed companies allowing employees to work from home was hurting businesses in busy city centers such as Sydney’s CBD.
“Hotels are suffering… there are fewer business trips, they’re all doing it in (Microsoft) Teams… cleaners, people who make you coffee, lunches, all that stuff.
“We want a vibrant city that visitors come to, and it has to look busy, it has to look lively, it doesn’t have to look so slow and disjointed.”
Ms Duncan pointed out that there were distractions when working from home.
Fordham argued that there were also distractions at work before agreeing that Sydney’s pedestrian zone had less foot traffic.
Working from home became a regular part of life during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The work-from-home directive turned city centers into ghost towns with cafes and restaurants forced to close for good due to reduced trade.

Acres of office space in the city center were vacant, and commercial office vacancy rates were in double digits two years after the outbreak of the pandemic.
Since then, many companies have changed their policies, allowing employees to continue working from home.
Sydneysiders are slowly returning to the office, but many companies are allowing hybrid work routines.
Some employees have agreed to come to the office a certain number of days a week and work from home the remaining days.
