Queensland has registered 19,932 new cases and 11 deaths, compared to a record 16 people who died yesterday.

Prime Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk announced the new cases on Wednesday during a media conference with health official Dr John Gerrard.

It comes after Queensland registered 15,962 new cases yesterday.

Ms Palaszczuk announced that from 1am on Saturday, international travelers can return and no longer have to quarantine once they have been vaccinated.

The prime minister said the decision was made possible by the state’s current vaccination rate of 91.5 percent of the population receiving one dose of a vaccine and 88.82 percent receiving a double dose.

Travelers must take a RAT test within 24 hours of arrival.

Queensland Prime Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk said vaccinated international travelers will be allowed back into Queensland from this Saturday without the need for quarantine.

Queensland Prime Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk said vaccinated international travelers will be allowed back into Queensland from this Saturday without the need for quarantine.

“I know many people have sons and daughters abroad or parents or siblings abroad, this gives the airlines and inbound travelers reassurance that you can get into Queensland from 1am Saturday and you don’t have to to do – if you’re vaccinated – quarantine,” Ms Palaszczuk said.

“You are free to enter.”

dr. Gerrard said the 11 new deaths included one person in their thirties, one in their fifties, two in their sixties, one in their seventies, three in their eighties and three in their nineties.

‘Two of these people had not been vaccinated. Seven had been double dosed and two had been given boosters,” said Dr Gerrard.

“These last two had received boosters from residential aged care facilities and had very significant other medical problems.”

There were now 835 people in hospitals in Queensland with Covid, including 52 patients in ICU, 18 of whom are on a ventilator.

“This gives the airlines and inbound travelers the assurance that you can get into Queensland from 1am on Saturday and that – if you are vaccinated – you no longer have to go into quarantine,” Ms Palaszczuk said. Pictured: Coolangatta on the Gold Coast

Ms Palaszczuk called for domestic manufacturers to be accredited as a way to provide additional RATs in Australia.

“We have the capacity in this country to do these RAT tests.

“We need to ask these companies to submit approvals and get them ready quickly. Instead of scouring the world to get them, we could produce them locally here.

“It’s something I want to raise in the national cabinet tomorrow.”
