Victoria has registered 13 new cases of Covid-19 as a family of tourists traveled from Covid-ravaged Melbourne to a popular Queensland resort island.

The new cases came after 54,839 tests were conducted and 14,758 doses of vaccine were administered in the past 24 hours. There are now 81 active cases.

A family of six has also been police escorted off the coast of Hamilton Island, in Queensland’s Whitsundays, after it was revealed they had left Victoria just before the state was plunged into a five-day lockdown on Friday.

They are considered close contacts of a Covid-19 positive case in Victoria.
