Ellis Simms was criticized for an “absolute” miss during Coventry City’s FA Cup match against Wolves on Saturday afternoon.
Molineux hosted the first of the weekend’s FA Cup quarter-finals, with Premier League side Wolves entertaining their Championship rivals.
But Simms looked like he was going to give the underdogs the lead, only to miss his shot in front of goal, sending it straight in the direction of Wolves goalkeeper José Sa when the rest of the net was open.
The referee’s flag would have been raised for offside so it wouldn’t have counted anyway, but it was still an opportunity Coventry would have been desperate to take advantage of as they chased the early lead during a first half that ended goalless.
Fans of X (formerly Twitter) were not kind, with one asking: “How did Simms miss that?”, accompanied by a dizzy emoji.

“That’s a bad, bad miss on Simms’ part.”
Simms, who was previously a youth prospect at Everton before leaving for Coventry last year, left Toffees fans in stitches.
Fans on social media were quick to react to Simms’ miss in front of the Wolves’ open goal.

He then scored the first goal of the game in the 53rd minute, but Rayan Ait-Nouri equalized with seven minutes left in regulation time.
