The bodies were found the next day by Sara Bermúdez's father-in-law in one of the rooms above the house.

Police said they collected a DNA sample from Locke on March 19, almost three weeks after the murders.

The researchers said the sample matched that of another sample taken from the crime scene.

Sara Bermúdez's husband, Moses, was in California to work when the murders occurred.

Authorities said Locke lied to police when he said Moses Bermúdez believed the murders were committed by the MS-13 gang.

Locke also told the police that he had not visited Bermudez's house for at least a month and a half before the murders.

The researchers say that this was also a lie.

Police said Locke's car was seen leaving his home and returning later the same day on February 28.

"Witness statements reported that Mathew Locke was not at his residence prior to the killings and then returned to the residence shortly after it happened," police documents say.

Locke, who was ordered to remain without bail, is currently serving a prison sentence as part of an unrelated theft of vehicle parts.

His next court hearing related to the murder case is scheduled for October 18.
