King Charles shared a comical exchange with a royal fan about his 17-year-old spaniel named “Camilla” as he greeted members of the public on Easter Day.

Charles and Camilla shook hands with dozens of people queuing outside St George’s Chapel in Windsor yesterday, in what was the monarch’s most significant public appearance since her cancer diagnosis last month.

A woman, who was holding a Welsh flag and wearing a matching bright red coat and hat, called out to King to get his attention.

She said: “Your Majesty, Camilla is 17 now.” Charles looked at her and paused before clarifying that his King Charles spaniel is called Camilla.

The king made a comment to the woman and the crowd began laughing at the exchange.

King Charles shared a comical exchange with a royal fan on Sunday about his 17-year-old spaniel named “Camilla.”

Moments earlier, the King and Queen had been asked to pass on “best wishes” to the Princess of Wales from a member of the public.

The woman said: “Best wishes to the Princess of Wales,” to which Camilla nods in recognition. King Charles replied: “Thank you very much. »

The king was seen shaking hands with 56 people as he was handed a homemade card and promised worried royal fans he was doing his “best”.

The Prince and Princess of Wales were not present as they continue to recuperate privately with their three young children at Amner Hall, their country home – where they can “shut off from the world and move on”.

Following Kate’s emotional video last Friday, the king said he was “very proud” of the princess for her courage to speak out and would be in “closest contact with his daughter-in-law beloved.”

The outpouring of support comes after the royal family was rocked not only by King Charles’ illness, but also by the Princess of Wales’ cancer diagnosis.

Just over a week ago, Kate, 42, revealed she was undergoing preventative chemotherapy in a moving video that sent shockwaves across the world.

The monarch, 75, was in good spirits and his visit could be seen as a very “significant” step in his recovery from cancer, a Palace source said.

Charles was diagnosed with shock cancer just 17 months into his reign as king, while undergoing a hospital procedure for benign enlarged prostate.

Speaking to MailOnline, the Palace source said today’s walkabout marks a “significant” step in Charles’ recovery, adding: “As we can see, the King has responded in a very encouraging treatment over the last few weeks.

“Her doctors were thus able to slightly adjust their advice on what Her Majesty is now able to undertake, including attending the Easter service and welcoming well-wishers who had kindly come to show their support.

“To be clear, Her Majesty’s treatment continues and caution is of course the watchword, but as the newspaper’s plans evolve towards the summer, we hope to see more of these carefully calibrated steps towards recovery of certain public functions for the king, with adjustments made if necessary.

“Nothing will be confirmed until closer to now, plans remain evolving and are subject to medical advice, but there is a lot of hope and optimism from doctors and patient.”

The source added that although Her Majesty has carried out all her official duties in private and has been photographed at a number of small engagements at the Palace, it is likely that today she has offered the wider public the assurance that His Majesty “is well and the road is good”. The future looks very positive.”

During today’s walkabout, a royal fan leaned over to tell Charles: “Happy Easter, Your Majesty, keep strong and never give in.” Others were heard saying “good to see you” and asking the monarch “how are you” as Charles and Queen Camilla walked past.

Earlier today, the King was seen beaming as he arrived in his maroon Bentley ahead of today’s church service. It is a “soft” return to public life, after he withdrew from his usual duties last month.

The king’s cheerful appearance will greatly reassure the public after the monarch took a step back from official duties following his diagnosis last month.
