Courteney Cox shared a touching story about her late father Richard Lewis Cox on Tuesday while promoting Scream 6 on Jimmy Kimmel Live on ABC.
The 58-year-old actress was congratulated by Jimmy, 55, for getting a star on the Hollywood Walk Of Fame on Monday and he also apologized for not going to the ceremony attended by his wife Molly, 44.
“My wife came home last night, ‘Oh my god, you need to hear what happened.’ Do you want to tell the story of when you decided to give up?’ Jimmy said.
“Well, my father actually thought I should give it up. What happened was that I hadn’t worked in a long time. And I only had enough money to live for about two weeks. I mean, real food, like that’s what it was,” Courteney said.
“So I talked to my dad and he said, ‘CeCe’, that’s my nickname, ‘You have to come home. It’s a long fall from Los Angeles to Birmingham, Alabama, and it’s time to pack. And you’re a salesman, you’re a damn good salesman. You have to do what you do best,” she continued.

“What did he want you to sell?” Jimmy asked.
“Sell swimming pools,” the Friends star replied.
“Pools?” Jimmy asked incredulously.
“That’s my father’s business. I’m pretty good at that, by the way,” Courteney said.
“I knew I had that in reserve. I was like ‘daddy’. The next day I got a call that I auditioned for Family Ties, I got the part as Michael J. Fox’s girlfriend for the past two years,” Courteney said of the lucrative role from 1987 to 1989.
Courteney said her father loved Hollywood movies, television shows, and action movies.
Jimmy then played a clip showing Courteney after she shared the story about her father at the Walk Of Fame ceremony.
“I also want to thank my beautiful sisters, Dottie and Virginia, for showing up for me today and flying here. My mom would have loved this, but my dad was obsessed with television…” Courteney said before being interrupted by an unexpected burst of water falling from above.

Jimmy also subjected Courteney’s line of scented candles to a test by a baby on TikTok who smells candles.
She also played a game of Extreme Indoor Balloon with Jimmy in which they hit a balloon in a living room setup.
Jimmy narrowly won the silly game despite a valiant effort from Courteney.
Scream 6 hits theaters March 10.
