A couple have shared the horrifying story of how they were attacked by their Airbnb host with a double-edged knife.
Laura Valm and her boyfriend Ryan had been staying at the rented property near Coral Harbour in Nassau, Bahamas last week.
The property, which averages around $168 a night, is described as “private and quiet” – but that was not the case for the couple after the host attacked them.
Sharing two TikToks, Valm described how they had booked the property after reading great reviews, but found their host, whom they call Jan, to be strange.
According to Valm, her host tried to kill her and her boyfriend and injured a man who works for him with a large double-edged sword.
The images captured by both show Jan being detained by police officers after they managed to escape and call for help with the gun at his side.

According to Valm, her host tried to kill her and her boyfriend and injured a man who works for him. The sword is seen here in the lower right corner.
Valm said: ‘We got there, the hosts are fine, they’re friendly, they’re nice. However, some of the things they say are a bit peculiar.
“He told us that the CIA was watching him, that they own a mushroom farm, so we thought maybe they were tapping into their own supplies.”
She explains how on her first day at the property, Jan would frequently come down to the beach where they were lounging to interrupt them, which she described as “weird.”
Laura continued: “It was very strange, very peculiar. It set off alarm bells for us. But, again, we didn’t feel threatened.”
After Jan stopped bothering the couple, she says they got the impression his wife had told him to stop approaching them.
Laura then explains: ‘As we walk back, we have to go through the back door, just like our cabin, through the front.
“As we were moving along, he came out and said, ‘Hey guys, do you want to come in?'”
After agreeing, Laura says that once inside, Jan showed her boyfriend something online about the current situation involving Israel and Iran.

Footage taken after the incident shows officers moving to apparently arrest the man.
According to Laura, her boyfriend told her: “I don’t think so, there are many countries in between and I don’t think that will happen.”
Laura continues: ‘He just exploded, he just exploded – he pushed my boyfriend, we think he punched him.
‘He dropped a glass of wine, he’s losing his mind screaming and yelling ‘Get out of my house!’
Laura adds that as she tries to clean up the wine glass so she can leave, one of the couple’s workers appears at the door to try to calm the situation.
Despite this, Laura says that Jan pulled out a double-edged sword and used it to cut her boyfriend’s hand.
She continues: ‘Ryan comes out the door and we run around the side of the house. We were running, Jan comes out the front door and cuts us off. I rushed to the street.

“My boyfriend is standing next to us and we see the worker dripping blood everywhere.”
Laura says that after reaching the main road they managed to stop two locals who called the local police. They then took the worker to a nearby military base for treatment.

In another clip, she explains how Airbnb has removed the listing and how she has been begging Vrbo to do the same for fear of another couple being targeted.
