Girlfriend, 24, was so ‘desirous’ to please her pedophile lover, 45, that she made sure they were alone with a young girl – as depraved couple are convicted of horrific child abuse

  • Michael Colmer, 45, of Newport, has admitted a series of child sexual abuse crimes
  • Friend Shannon Vicary admitted to arranging for Colmer to be abused
  • Colmer filmed two attacks on his iPad and was only caught after police discovered that he had visited child sexual abuse websites on his computer and raided his home
  • Colmer had more than 600 images of abuse, including children under the age of 18 months
  • At Cardiff Crown Court, he was sentenced to 17 years and four months, while Vicary’s sentencing was postponed until next month so she can receive a psychiatric evaluation.

A twisted friend found a toddler for her pedophile lover to abuse in order to act out his child sex fantasies.

Shannon Vicary, 24, secretly figured out that the couple would be alone with the girl – so that her older boyfriend could carry out the attacks.

A court heard she was ‘eager to help’ with Michael Colmer’s sexual abuse cravings and ‘encouraged’ him in a series of mean Whatsapp messages.

Colmer, 45, filmed two attacks on his iPad and was only caught after police discovered he had access to child sexual abuse sites on his computer.

The child’s mother said her family was left ‘devastated’ after learning of the couple’s abuse.

Prosecutor Matthew Cobbe said: “There were reports between the couple eagerly awaiting the possibility of abusing the child.

It started with a comment on a photo of young children in school uniforms and that comment turned sexual.

“Colmer sent Vicary a picture of his penis and referred to what they were going to do the next day.”

Cardiff Crown Court heard that the vicar had heard situations that would allow Colmer to be alone with his victim twice, while her mother did not know what was going on.

Mr Cobbe told the court that the victim – which cannot be named for legal reasons – is “extremely vulnerable because of her youth.”

Colmer’s house was raided by police after the National Crime Agency discovered that an email address in the house had access to indecent footage.

Colmer told officers, “You’ll find them on my phone and on my iPad.”

The court heard that Colmer had more than 600 abuse images of children on his devices, including many under the age of 18 months.

Colmer has been jailed for 17 years and four months, while Vicary’s conviction was postponed. A judge told them they displayed behavior of an ‘almost unimaginable level of depravity’

In a statement, the girl’s mother said, “What happened has had a profound effect on me.

‘I feel like a bad parent because I didn’t know what was going on and couldn’t protect my daughter.

‘I don’t understand why these people did what they did to my daughter. I hope they can never do this to anyone else.

“This destroyed me and my family.”

Colmer, of Newport, admitted to sexual assault, inciting a child to sexual activity, taking an indecent photo of a child, and taking indecent images of children.

Vicary, from Newport, admitted that there were two instances of arranging or facilitating child crime.

Her sentence was postponed until next month for a psychiatric report.

Judge David Wynn Morgan told Colmer: “This case reveals behavior by both you and Vicary of an almost unimaginable level of depravity.

‘You have shown yourself to be a truly despicable person.

‘No one can estimate how much damage your victim has been done, but the damage done to her mother is enormous.

‘You pose a significant danger to young children.

Shannon Vicary may not have been interested in children.

However, she clearly wanted to help satisfy your sexual desires.

“You planned these violations and encouraged each other.”

Colmer was given an extended jail term for public protection of 17 years and four months, meaning he must serve at least 11 years before he can qualify for parole.

After sentence, Det Con Chloe Collins said, “I hope today’s result brings some comfort to the involved child and her family.

“They have shown so much resilience in an extremely difficult and troubling time for them.”
