A frisky couple having sex on a popular beach stunned families and beachgoers trying to escape the heat, more than the ocean to look at.

The late-night game in the sand in view of spectators at Coogee Beach in Sydney’s east at around 9pm on Sunday night was filmed by a shocked local, who shared the footage with Daily Mail Australia.

The man, who wishes to remain anonymous, said the couple performed the lewd act while onlookers walked by and watched.

‘They literally thought no one would see them, how stupid are they?’ said.

‘I can’t believe they did that right next to families passing through a busy area.

“They were just doing it in plain sight.”

Footage showed a loved-up participant thrusting while his partner lay in the sand.

When they finished, more passersby stopped and watched the couple get up and begin to get dressed.

The images then showed two people approaching the couple to intervene.

They were seen talking to the couple while the man wiped the sand off his body while still having his pants down.

Incredibly, the venue that filmed the lustful couple claimed that the incident is not unique.

“It’s not the first time I’ve seen this at Coogee Beach,” he said.

The Coogee boardwalk was still busy hours after Sydneysiders flocked to the beach to cool off as temperatures soared above 30C.

A New South Wales Police spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia on Sunday night that they have not yet received any reports or complaints about the incident.

Having sex in public is indecent exposure and a criminal offence, which carries a maximum penalty of six months in jail or a $1,100 fine in New South Wales.

It appears Australians are becoming more brazen after images emerged in April of a couple performing a sex act in broad daylight on a narrow sandbar in the middle of the Maroochy River on Queensland’s Sunshine Coast.

The woman, dressed in swimsuits, was caught performing oral sex on the man, who appeared to be wearing a green sweatshirt and black shorts.

And a few weeks earlier, images emerged of a couple having sex inside the disabled toilets at Sunshine Plaza, also in Maroochydore.

No one was charged following the incident and images of the event, uploaded to Instagram, were later deleted.
