Costco partners with this huge company to deliver your groceries

Sometimes a trip to your local supermarket just not in the cards, and browsing the digital aisles available on an app is easier than navigating the physical aisles of the store. While grocery delivery isn’t as popular right now as it was during the height of the pandemic, this convenient advantage hasn’t gone away. In fact, retailers continue to innovate in delivery, and Costco is currently testing a new program that could be a convenient choice for members.

The pilot service is teasing fast deliveries of all the items you like to buy in bulk, thanks to a partnership with Uber and Uber Eats. With a minimum order of $35 or more through the Uber or Uber Eats apps, members can supposedly get their items delivered within hours, if not minutes later.

It’s important to remember that this is a pilot program, meaning the service is not currently available at every Costco warehouse. Currently, only members who shop at 25 different warehouses in Texas can participate. However, there are already plans to add seven more locations to the test in the coming weeks.

While this is Uber’s first partnership with a wholesaler in the US, the tech company is already working with a national supermarket chain. Uber recently partnered with Albertson’s, a movement that has added more than 400 cities and towns to its grocery offerings.

This isn’t Costco’s only delivery option, but it expands on the drop-down menu already available to members. They include the company Groceries delivered at home via Instacart and free delivery within 2 days on orders of $75 or more.

“Our mission at Costco is to care for our members. By finding solutions to deliver goods quickly and efficiently, we continue to provide value, convenience and member service to our members,” Ron Vachris, the retailer’s executive vice president of merchandising, said.

Costco probably hopes this test outperforms its Pilot on the curb did. The initiative was launched in January 2021 at three warehouses in New Mexico. CFO Richard Galanti said the pilot went “well”. and basket sizes had “actually exceeded our expectations”. But only a few months later, his tune apparently changed. “Usage hasn’t set the world on fire in terms of where it’s trending,” Galanti said.

By the summer, rumors began to swirl that the program would end without a nationwide expansion. A document circulating on Reddit reads: “We have made the decision to discontinue street pickup on Saturday, July 31.” Eat this, not that! contacted Costco earlier this month to verify the letter’s authenticity, but the department store chain declined to comment at the time. The website for the service remained operational from 21 July.
