Katie has recently undergone a major body transformation, which she believes has helped her increase her self-confidence.

Before embarking on her fitness journey, Katie revealed that she was struggling with comfort food while filming her gripping cervical cancer storyline.

Last month she spoke candidly with Closer Magazine and admitted that she would eat sweet treats to help cheer [her] while filming the sad scenes.

She explained: “It was such a sad story to participate. I cried in almost every scene, and often ate cake to cheer me up.

“I was craving cookies in the green room or eating flap jacks made by the crew when I was exhausted. I ate so much sugar.

Katie added that she would share the dessert with her fellow star Rob Mallard, who plays her husband Daniel Osborne on the screen, and “grab one for [herself]and enjoy carbonated drinks.

She also revealed that after a busy schedule, she would be “listless and stressed” to prepare healthy meals or to control her portion sizes.

“When I got home, I would learn lessons the next day, so I didn’t have time to go to the gym or cook,” Katie explained. “I would try to order healthy takeaways, but in the end I would order a lot of sides, such as halloumi and pots of chicken, and all at once instead of saving some for leftovers.”

Only when it started to affect her physical health did she feel she should make a difference.

The blonde beauty revealed: “I was usually between 8 and 10 when ordering clothes, but I crawled to size 12, which is not bad at all, but it was bigger than I usually am.”

When she finished her last scenes about the soap, Katie enrolled in a 12-week course at the Ultimate Performance Gym in Manchester to get back into shape.

The actress said: “It was hard work at the gym. I was there three times a week with a personal trainer, but it was easy to follow the diet. “

Of her hope, she added: ‘After my program ends, I will not stop. I will continue because I now have a preference for fitness. “
