Tasmania has registered its first case of coronavirus in eight months, prompting health authorities to cancel an AFL game that is believed to have housed 10,000 people.

A traveler from New South Wales has tested positive for Covid-19 while in a hotel quarantine in Launceston.

The 31-year-old man flew from NSW to Victoria before boarding a flight on Monday to travel to Launceston.

The man was placed in hotel quarantine on his arrival and was tested for coronavirus on Tuesday, but didn’t start showing symptoms until he returned to NSW on Wednesday.
