Coronation Street star Lucy Fallen recently revealed why she decided to return to Cobbles after leaving the soap four years ago.
The 28-year-old actress, who plays Bethany Platt in the ITV soap, revealed she needed some time away, however confessed she has no regrets about leaving the show when she did.
Explaining her original reasons for leaving, the star admitted: Sun“I needed that time off. I didn’t do a lot of work stuff, but I feel like I did a lot of life stuff.”
“I just needed it. I don’t regret leaving at all. It was definitely the right thing to do at the time. But then, it was also the right thing to do to come back.”
However, she revealed that returning to the show was not all easy and confessed that she felt a little strange on her first day back.

She admitted: ‘I felt different and a little weird on my first day.’
However, she confessed that she felt like no time had passed since she returned to the show for a week.
Lucy plays resident journalist and self-proclaimed detective Bethany and had already returned to the show last year because the writers thought her character was crucial to telling the story of Lauren’s fate.
The star received a phone call from a producer last April confirming that a sexual harassment plan would bring her back into the story.
Lucy is one of the few people who has known Lauren’s fate for months, however, she has had to keep the secret from those closest and dearest to her.
The star never tells her family anything because they all know not to ask and she claimed: “I always forget anyway.”
Lucy’s character, Bethany, has been mired in controversy since the day she was born.
Her mother, Sarah Louise, played by Tina O’Brien, was just 13 when she became pregnant in a story that made front-page news.
Explaining her original reasons for leaving, the star admitted to The Sun: “I needed that time off. I didn’t go off to do a lot of work stuff, but I feel like I did a lot of life stuff.”
She continued: “I just needed that. I don’t regret leaving at all. It was definitely the right thing to do at the time. But then, it was also the right thing to do that I came back.”
In addition to the bullying plot, she was also involved in a drug case and was expelled from school.
However, Lucy stated that she enjoys her character being given difficult plots, as she admitted that they are her “favorite” things to do.
This comes after the star left the Cobbles in 2019 after four years of playing Bethany.
In a statement, the star told MailOnline she made the “extremely difficult decision” to leave the show when her contract came to an end in 2020, later insisting in a tweet that her departure had “nothing to do with anyone who worked on the show”.
She said: ‘After the most incredible four years, I have made the extremely difficult decision to leave Coronation Street at the end of my contract in 2020.’
“It’s hard to put into words how much this show means to me. I’ve made lifelong friendships with some of the most talented and hard-working people in the industry, had incredible and immensely meaningful stories, and laughed with the best people every day.”
‘I’m so grateful to Iain and everyone at Coronation Street. I owe them everything and I will miss them very much.’
Lucy later clarified her decision in a tweet: “I made my decision to leave in August last year and it has nothing to do with ANYONE from Coronation Street. I didn’t take it lightly and I will miss every single person there.”
‘I’m excited for my senior year at the best place! Wow!’
Producer Iain MacLeod added: “Lucy informed us earlier this year that she would like to leave at the end of her current contract in 2020 to pursue other projects.”
This comes after the star left the Cobbles in 2019 after four years of playing Bethany.
In a statement, the star told MailOnline she made the “extremely difficult decision” to leave the show when her contract ended in 2020.
Lucy later clarified her decision in a tweet, where she insisted that her exit “had nothing to do with anyone” on the show.
“She’s an incredible performer and has been the center of some huge stories for us during her time on the show.”
‘I have no doubt that her stellar career will continue beyond the cobbles and I would like to wish her all the best in everything she does next, starting with the brilliant final chapter of Bethany’s story!’
Meanwhile, a source said SunIt’s a huge blow for bosses after losing Faye Brookes and Katie McGlynn so close to each other has plunged the show into chaos.
‘Lucy has been with Corrie for just under five years and feels now is the right time to try new things.’
“Everything is friendly and there is no bad blood. Bosses are willing to leave Bethany’s role vacant in case Lucy wants to return in the future.”
