‘It’s going to be amazing’: Coronation Street star Colson Smith reveals he’s taking time off from soap to become a FARMER

Coronation Street actor Colson Smith has revealed that he is taking some time off from the classic ITV soap to become a farmer.

The 22-year-old Dorset, who first stepped on the cobblestones in 2011, now wants to take a four-week break to help his sister, Hannah, on her farm.

He hopes to lend his sibling a helping hand as a veterinarian at the start of the lambing season, as he calls himself a ‘top farmer’.

“April is lamb season and I have the call – I’m in for lamb season,” Colson told co-hosts Ben Price and Jack P. Shepherd on the Sofa Cinema Club podcast.

‘I’m off from work all April, so I’m going to go lambing there. It’s going to be great. ‘

Colson, who is known for his portrayal of the lovable Craig Tinker, said he helped out on the farm last month while continuing, “ It’s been plenty. I had finished working and got a call saying “you have to come and help, we need help on the farm”.

‘I am a top farmer. I can drive the tractor, I’m good at that.

‘My family all grew up in the countryside. They are all very outdoors, academic, smart people.

And then I am there. I’m a bit of a townie because I wanted to be an actor while everyone else wanted to live with the fat of the land. ‘

Colson revealed that he also helped raise a baby cow. He added: ‘So I was called to action because a calf had just been born. So I went to feed the calf. I was pretty good.

‘I had to milk his mother by hand, which was quite interesting because I touched his teats and I didn’t even know the name. I rocked in my Yeezys to do all this work. ‘

Colson recently underwent a dramatic transformation after adopting a healthier lifestyle in 2020.

The soap star first showed his impressive weight loss last March, but he continued to slim down while in lockdown, losing more than 10 stones.

Speaking of his staggering weight loss, he said it could cause continuity issues on Coronation Street during filming and he joked he will have to wear a thick suit.

Colson told The sun last year: ‘We’re in direct continuity, but I’ve lost almost ten stones since we left work, so I’m not sure [my hair] becomes the biggest of their problems.

“Maybe I’ll wear a wig and a fat suit when we go back. Now we move on to a purple shampoo, making it almost a platinum color, which basically takes out the ginger pigment.

“So the yellowness will go away and I’ll have a bunch of blonde hair, which I’m technically doing now.”
