A prisoner who had been on the run for more than 12 hours was found in a hotel after he was accidentally released from jail following an administrative error.
Corey Hastings, 30, was last seen leaving Long Bay Correctional Complex in Sydney’s south-east on Thursday around 1pm.
Hastings was not serving a jail sentence in Long Bay, but was on remand there on dangerous driving charges.
NSW Police said they were “conducting an extensive search and investigation to locate him”.
Police confirmed Hastings was found at a hotel in Bondi at around 6am on Friday.
Corey Hastings, 30, was last seen leaving Long Bay Correctional Complex in Sydney’s south-east on Thursday around 1pm.
He has since been taken to Waverley Police Station and will then be transferred back to Long Bay.
The 30-year-old man is believed to have visited Eastgardens shopping center in Maroubra about 3pm on Thursday.
The public had been urged not to approach Hastings but to call triple zero if they had seen him.
NSW Correctional Services is investigating what led to his release.
“Staff must follow detailed procedures when processing inmate detention, sentencing decisions and releases from custody,” a spokesperson said.
‘The release was due to an administrative error following a court appearance. CSNSW is investigating how the error occurred.’
Hastings was due to appear at Wagga Wagga District Court on Thursday morning.
