Long Island cops are being praised on social media after using a police SUV to sweep up and run over a woman who fired a gun into the air at an intersection before putting her on her head.
The incident was reported around 2:20 p.m. in the Long Island suburb of North Bellmore, a Nassau County police spokesperson told DailyMail.com.
A 33-year-old black woman, who has not yet been identified, was firing a semi-automatic pistol in the air and aiming it at oncoming vehicles.
The owner of a nearby gas station was recording the collapse, as the woman began to point the gun at her own head.
As the woman points the gun at her skull, a police SUV makes a sharp turn towards her and throws her into the street before she can get away.

The right front bumper of the police SUV hits her legs and she collapses into the road, as officers begin to surround her on foot.
The woman was treated for minor injuries at a nearby hospital, according to press day.
The officer driving the SUV that hit her was also sent to hospital for an emotional trauma check.
The investigation is ongoing, with the woman described as “in police custody” but not yet charged with anything.
No mention was made of any charges against the officer driving the SUV, with Nassau Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder praising the officer.
“I will never go to the Monday morning quarterback, my cops,” he said.
“Police department protocol is lethal physical force versus lethal physical force. It’s the law,” Ryder said.
Ryder added that the officers on foot “faced deadly physical force against civilians and themselves, and they used the vehicle to stop this threat.” The other option on the table is to pull out the gun and shoot it. They didn’t do that.

No mention was made of charges being laid against the officer driving the SUV, with Nassau Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder praising the officer.




“They chose an alternative option…and probably saved people’s lives, including their own.”
Social media users also praised the officer.
“Courageous extreme measure which probably saved his life. Bravo, ”wrote a Twitter account.
“I’m pretty sure it was done because she was holding the gun to her head,” another wrote. ‘Immediate action required.’
“Incredible actually,” added Sydnee Taylor. ‘Non-lethal dismantling. And no one was seriously injured. Looks like his foot may be broken but yes. They saved lives, including his.
The scene was located near a children’s prep center that was being used that day, but school officials said the children had already been fired.
